WHAT IS A CATARACT?

Cataracts are a clouding of the lens of the eye caused by the accumulation of protein. They can cause cloudy or blurred vision. At Jones Eye Clinic, we can treat cataracts by removing the cloudy lens through a gentle procedure that will eliminate the blur in your vision. To learn more about this advanced cataract surgery technique, schedule a consultation!

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU HAVE A CATARACT?

The best way to learn whether you have a cataract is to meet with one of the eye care specialists as cataracts range in terms of severity. Here are some detection signs to look out for:

‣ Blurred vision that cannot be corrected with prescription contact lenses or eyeglasses

‣ Halos or glares

‣ White spots on the pupil

‣ Impaired vision at night

‣ Colors appear less vivid

If you are experiencing one or more of the symptoms listed above, it’s time to see an ophthalmologist.

CATARACT SURGERY PROCEDURE

Now that you are familiar with what a cataract is and its diagnosis, let’s dive into what the cataract surgery process looks like. When you choose Jones Eye Clinic as your professional eye care provider, the first step in the process involves an evaluation. During the evaluation, we will review your medical history and examine your condition. We will then map out your cataract treatment plan, which includes the type of lenses that best meet your needs. If cataracts exist in both eyes, only one eye is operated on at a time. The entire procedure is performed as follows:

‣ Numbing eye drops are placed in the eye so the patient feels no discomfort.

‣ A tiny incision is made in the cornea.

‣ Using special instruments, the cataract is removed from the eye.

‣ An artificial intraocular lens (IOL) is positioned in the eye, in place of the cataract lens.

‣ A protective covering is placed over the eye for recovery.

‣ We will provide proper aftercare instructions for the recovery period, including avoiding strenuous activity and administering prescribed eye drops.

BENEFITS OF CATARACT SURGERY

When it comes to cataract surgery, there are a host of benefits, including:

‣ Achieve clearer, crisper vision

‣ See brighter, more vivid colors

‣ Procedure is safe and effective

‣ Enhance quality of life and boost confidence

‣ Can correct other ocular disorders, such as presbyopia, nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism

‣ No injections or stitches necessary

If you’re tired of struggling with blurred, clouded vision, now is the time to chat with our eye care specialist, Dr. Jason Jones, to discuss cataract treatment!

RISKS OR SIDE EFFECTS OF CATARACT SURGERY

While cataract surgery is considered to be an extremely safe and effective procedure, as with all surgeries, some risk is a factor. We will discuss any potential issues with you during your evaluation, such as infection or inflammation, prior to proceeding with the cataract surgery procedure. We will also inform you of the best methods for avoiding such issues, like using prescribed eye drops, wearing a protective eye cover while sleeping, and avoiding rubbing the eyes. If you have additional questions or would like more information, feel free to give us a call or schedule your consultation online.
